Fat Freezing, also known as cryolipolysis, is a non-invasive body contouring treatment designed to target localised pockets of unwanted fat without surgery, needles or significant downtime.
Using controlled cooling technology, fat cells within the treatment area are selectively cooled. Over the weeks following treatment, the affected fat cells are gradually processed and cleared naturally by the body, helping to create a more defined and contoured appearance.
At Aeternum Aesthetics in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, our advanced Fat Freezing system allows us to treat a wide range of areas – including smaller, traditionally difficult-to-treat areas such as the double chin.
What is Fat Freezing?
Fat Freezing uses a technology known as cryolipolysis to reduce unwanted fat cells through controlled cooling.
During treatment, a specially selected applicator is positioned over the area of concern. Vacuum suction gently draws the fatty tissue into the applicator before precisely controlled cooling is delivered to the underlying fat.
Fat cells are particularly sensitive to cold. The controlled cooling process causes the targeted fat cells to undergo a natural process of cell death, while surrounding tissues remain unaffected. The body then gradually processes and removes the affected fat cells over the following weeks and months.
The result is a gradual reduction in the thickness of the fatty layer and improved contour of the treated area.
There are no incisions, no injections and no surgery, and you can return to your usual activities following treatment.

Our latest Fat Freezing technology gives us considerably more flexibility when planning your treatment.
We can treat up to four areas during one appointment, making it possible to address several areas of concern together rather than requiring a separate appointment for each one.
For example, you might choose to treat:

or
2 abdominal areas + double chin

abdomen + both flanks
Your treatment doesn’t have to follow a predetermined package. We’ll assess your individual areas of concern and recommend the combination most appropriate for you. This also means that treating multiple areas during the same appointment offers increasingly good value, with prices reducing considerably per area when two, three or four areas are treated.
Fat Freezing for the Double Chin
Target a small but stubborn area beneath the chin
The area beneath the chin can be particularly resistant to diet and exercise and may affect the definition of the jawline even in people who are otherwise relatively slim.
Our Fat Freezing system includes a specialist smaller applicator designed specifically for localised areas such as beneath the chin. This allows us to use the same principles of cryolipolysis to target suitable pockets of submental fat.
For the right patient, treatment can gradually reduce the fatty layer beneath the chin, helping to create a slimmer and more defined lower facial profile without injections or surgery.
A consultation is required to establish whether the fullness beneath your chin is caused predominantly by fat and whether Fat Freezing is the most appropriate treatment for you.
What happens during treatment?
Your appointment begins with an assessment of the area or areas you would like treated. Your practitioner will determine whether there is sufficient suitable fatty tissue and select the appropriate applicator.
A protective membrane is applied to the skin before the Fat Freezing applicator is positioned over the treatment area.
Vacuum suction gently draws the tissue into the applicator and controlled cooling begins.
You’ll initially feel suction, pressure and intense cold. As the area becomes cold, it will usually begin to feel numb and most people are able to relax comfortably for the remainder of their treatment.
Following removal of the applicator, the treated area may temporarily appear red, raised or feel firm and sometimes bruised.
There is no significant recovery period, so you can return to your normal day afterwards.
When will I see results?
Fat Freezing is not an instant treatment.
Your body needs time to process the affected fat cells, so changes develop gradually rather than overnight.
You may begin to notice changes within the first few weeks, with results continuing to develop over approximately one to three months following treatment.
This gradual process can make Fat Freezing particularly appealing for patients who want body contouring without surgery or an obvious period of recovery.
How many Fat Freezing treatments will I need?
This will depend upon the amount of localised fat, the area being treated and the result you would like to achieve.
Some patients may be happy with the improvement following a single treatment. For those wanting a greater reduction, we offer a course of three Fat Freezing treatments performed at approximately four-week intervals.
Your practitioner will recommend the most appropriate treatment plan following assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Most people tolerate the treatment very well. You will initially experience a strong cooling sensation and suction from the applicator. The area usually becomes numb as treatment progresses.
There is usually little to no downtime following Fat Freezing and most people can return to their normal activities immediately.
Temporary redness, tenderness, numbness, tingling, bruising or sensitivity can occur in the treated area and will be discussed with you during consultation.
Fat cells affected by cryolipolysis are gradually cleared by the body. However, Fat Freezing does not prevent future weight gain. Remaining fat cells can still increase in size if you gain weight, so maintaining a stable weight and healthy lifestyle will help maintain your result.
